Pyrethrum is the common name of Tanacetum cinerariifolium species, from Compositae family.

Also known as: dalmation pellitory, dalmatian chrysanthemum.

Features of Pyrethrum

Height to 12-30 inches. Spread to 12 inches. Zone 4-9. Perennial.

Pyrethrum is a member of the chrysanthemum family. Although it has no known edible uses, flowers of the plant is the main source of a natural insect repellent, which has been used for centuries.

The herb is also a welcomed addition to the garden, as it is effective against mosquitoes, ants and other pests.

Pyrethrum is toxic to insects but no mammals, though some people are highly allergic to the herb.
